After some time
making complex computer-controlled
interactive
installations,
the idea of making interactive artworks from one
sheet of paper is appealing. I've used them on
trains, in lobbies and in bathrooms. They are an
excellent excuse to walk up to strangers and offer
to fortell their future (although one American
demanded to see all 8 fortunes in advance of
risking a choice).
They are highly
international (how did they spread?) They can be
bilingual, or non-language based. Best of all they
are essentially hand-made, home-made and free.
It's a big
challenge to make such a small thing work visually,
and to express the messages in under ten words
(cootie haiku?)
I think I'll carry
on making them. Send me news of yours.
